Energy label F

Energy label F

Homes with an energy label F are referred to as very energy-wasting. It is the second worst energy label, after energy label G. These two labels are indicated as orange and red. The energy costs of homes with this label will be (unnecessarily) high. In addition, an inefficient energy label often also means a lower valuation when selling a home. On this page we will discuss the meaning and conditions of the F label in more detail. We then explain how the energy label can be improved and what role Bouwhuis Energielabels can play in this.

What does energy label F mean?

With energy label F, virtually no adjustments have been made to the house to make the house more energy efficient. A typical house with an F label looks like this:

  • Year of construction 1946-1964;
  • No energy-saving measures such as insulation;
  • (Partly) single glazing;
  • An outdated boiler;
  • Lots of draught;
  • High heating costs.

A home with an orange/red energy label has a (very) high energy consumption. As an orange energy label, the F label has unnecessarily high energy consumption. Homes with this energy label are often drafty and have an outdated boiler, which usually makes heating difficult and also very expensive.

Conditions for an energy label F

With an energy label F you consume between 335 and 380 kWh per m2 per year. This is almost twice as much as with a C label. The energy label F is therefore seen as very unfavorable and is the second worst label.

How do I get a higher label than an energy label F?

The energy label F can of course be improved. The advantage of the less favorable labels is that there are often options available to improve the energy label at relatively low costs. This includes hanging curtains, installing draft strips or radiator foil. The energy label can also increase through more drastic measures, such as replacing an old central heating boiler or insulating facades and floors. Measures such as solar panels or a heat pump can even ensure that you achieve an energy label A, but for a heat pump the insulation must be of sufficient level because it provides heating at a lower temperature than a central heating boiler. It can save money in the long term if you invest in a higher energy label. Monthly energy costs go down and the house becomes more valuable. Living comfort will also increase considerably, both in winter and summer.
